The GCRC Informatics Core, with the help of Dr. Jill Buyon's
RRNL group and Dr. William Rom's Biomarker group, has purchased
the FreezerWorks freezer management package in order better
to manage laboratory specimens. With this package, the GCRC
Core Lab and GCRC investigators will be able to reliably
store and retrieve samples and data
they need for their labs. Bar-code labels can be printed
and affixed to samples
allowing accurate and complete identification of these samples
(lab reagents, patient tissues or fluids, molecular probes,
etc.) which will allow them
to be used more effectively and efficiently. This will also
help eliminate pre-HIPAA practices which in some labs included
adding PHI to tube labels.
How to get involved:
The GCRC aims to offer the FreezerWorks package both to
GCRC investigators as well as non-GCRC NYU affiliated investigators.
We expect to institute a modest cost sharing charge to all
investigators who use this package in order to help cover
ongoing maintenance and support of the software.
Download the Freezerworks Client
(you'll need an account
for these programs to actually connect to the GCRC Freezerworks
Server)
Please contact
Steven Aponte at 3-7492 to find out more about the system
and how to become a user.
